7 Habits of Highly Effective Bloggers - Habit 7 - Sharpen the Saw

Covey defines habit 7, Sharpen the Saw, as preserving and enhancing the greatest asset you have - you. He describes four dimensions of sharpening:

Physical - Exercise, Nutrition, Stress Management
Mental - Reading, Writing, Visualizing, Planning
Social/Emotional - Service, Empathy, Synergy
Spiritual - Value Clarification, Commitment, Study, Meditation

Blogging provides a great avenue for sharpening the Mental Dimension. It can also help in the Social/Emotional Dimension if we practice habits 4, 5 and 6 when we blog. There are some bloggers focused on the Spiritual Dimension, but just as that essential dimension is largely ignored in society, so is it largely ignored on blogs.

In the end, I find three habits particularly helpful in life and in blogging:

Keep the End in Mind: Know why you are living and why you are blogging.
Put First Things First: Make sure your living and your blogging is helping you accomplish your life goals.
Seek First to Understand: Make a concerted effort to understand other people's paradigms, in order to effectively express and blog your opinion.

Hope you enjoyed the series.
