Seven Habits of Highly Effective Bloggers - Habit 4 - Think Win / Win

The fourth habit is Think Win/Win. In the words of Mr Covey,

Wn/Win is a frame of mind and heart that constantly seeks mutual benefit in all human interactions.
Win/Win sees life as a cooperative, not as a competive arena.
Win/Win is based on the paradigm that there is plenty for everybody.
Win/Win is a belief in a the Third Alternative. It's not your way or my way; it's a better way, a higher way.

One of the insights that Covey expresses in this habit, is a definition of maturity as the balance between courage and consideration. He brings down the words of Hrand Saxenian of Harvard Business School who defines emotional maturity as "the ability to express one's own feelings and convictions balanced with consideration for the thoughts and feelings of others".

For bloggers at the simplest level, Win/Win is the mutual benefit of linking and blogrolling. At the deeper level, it is what Hrand Saxenian expressed - expression of convictions, balanced with consideration of other. My personal failures in blogging have come when I did not take Dr Sanenian's words to heart.

Win/Win blogging is expressing your opinion, while respecting the opinions of those with you disagree. Of course there will be exceptions and haven't we all been entertained by the lasted rant of Blogger X. But in the long run, I think disagreement with respect is a lesson the blogosphere would greatly benefit from. I'm hoping it will become a reality.
