Simple is Usually Better

After posting Monday about Google's goodness, I read this post by Dave Winer which pointed to this post by Tim Bray which pointed to this post by Bill Prescod about Google's mistake in moving from a XML/HTTP/URI interface to a SOAP-based interface for its API.

Bray is happy that Dave Sifry chose the simpler and easier to implement XML/HTTP/URI for his Technoratti Api.

Does it matter which interface type becomes more dominant? If SOAP becomes more dominant, the next generation of the WEB will probably be more controlled by the bigger companies such as Microsoft and IBM.
