Lessons From The Blackout

The blackout was terrific. We learned a lot. The first lesson was that we are very dependent beings. The more technology we have, the more we become dependent on that technology. Although we were able to survive the 17 hours of no electricity, another day of no power would have been quite unbearable. But this technological dependency highlights a greater one - our dependence on G-d - the creator and sustainer of the universe.

The second lesson is the that of appreciation. When was the last time you danced a jig when you flicked on a light? We have a choice - we can choose to appreciate the power companies for the years of uninterrupted service that they deliver or we can curse them for this outage. The smart choice - choose appreciation.
